ABOUT THE CENTRE

The Dallow Learning Community Centre (DLCC) opened its doors to the public in September 2003. The centre was successfully built with contributions from Luton BC, SRB, EEDA and the Luton & Dunstable Partnership at a cost of £1.3 million. Formally known as the “Dallow Learning Community Centre” (DLCC), the centre was primarily built to serve the 14,000 people living in the Dallow Ward. The Dallow Ward is in the top 10% of the most disadvantaged wards in England.

After completing 15 successful years, the Trustees and Management Team decided to rename the building “The Dallow Centre” in order to reflect the growing spectrum of activities and centre users. Due to our continuing commitment to ensure community cohesion, today The Dallow Centre has become the focal point for the local diverse communities.

The key aim of the centre is to provide the opportunity to promote the regeneration of the local area, economically, socially and environmentally, to bring people together and create opportunities for individuals to realise their potential. The centre has organised many events to bring local people within the community to participate and will continue to develop projects in the future.

Staff at the centre work closely to ensure that the centre runs smoothly and to ensure the development of a team work approach to all tasks and to create an environment that is open, fair and welcoming to all users of the centre. The centre plays a key role to establish ways of working together with user groups to build a close link with community-based organisations, to develop services based on consultation, with them and the general public.

A number of working groups were originally set up to support the development of activities and projects within Dallow Ward. The groups were: sports & leisure, social & cultural, services for children & over 50’s, training, education & enterprise, race & advocacy. These have changed and sub-groups are now evolving to take forward our strategy. We actively promote and encourage the local community to participate in the development of the centre and the neighbourhood that surrounds it.

OUR AIMS

In order to achieve our aim, we set ourselves the following:

  1. A VISION – To create a thriving, united, and sustainable community where people of all backgrounds feel valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential. We envision Dallow as a place of opportunity, learning, and shared pride — where diversity is celebrated and everyone contributes to a brighter future.
  2. A TASK – To provide inclusive programmes, accessible resources, and spaces that encourage participation, creativity, and collaboration. Through education, enterprise, and wellbeing initiatives, we aim to equip individuals with the skills and confidence to improve their lives and positively impact those around them.
  3. A BETTER DALLOW – To continuously strengthen the bonds within our neighbourhood by promoting equality, mutual respect, and community spirit. Together, with our partners and residents, we strive to make Dallow a safer, healthier, and happier place to live — now and for generations to come.

Our aims guide every project we deliver and every partnership we build. Whether through youth engagement, family support, cultural events, or volunteering, we remain committed to working hand-in-hand with the people of Dallow to shape a better tomorrow.

Table Tennis

Luton Table Tennis Club

Table Tennis is a sport I love and am passionate about. As the founding member of Luton Table Tennis Club (Luton TTC), I was driven by a clear goal: to establish the first table tennis training facility in Luton.

This vision came from seeing the poor state of table tennis in Luton, where training facilities were non-existent and younger players were often excluded.

My background as a professional coach allowed me to establish Luton TTC with the aim of developing the next generation of highly skilled players through youth investment.

In partnership with Dallow Development Trust Ltd, the club now provides a thriving facility at The Dallow Centre where players can enjoy the sport and progress into competitive play.

Due to strong community interest, the project has expanded to include people from diverse backgrounds, helping improve health, wellbeing, and social connection.

Our History

Founded by a mother with a disabled child and no support, she took it upon herself to provide something meaningful for her daughter to do.

With support from local community members, she organised a regular activity club for children with disabilities. From these humble beginnings, FOBE has grown into an important support network for many families.

What We Do Today

Benefits for Children

Children with disabilities get opportunities to enjoy fun and exciting experiences they may not otherwise be able to access. This helps increase self-esteem, build friendships, and create happier outcomes.

Benefits for Families

Parents and carers get a chance to rest and recuperate, spend time with other family members, lower stress levels, and reduce the risk of family breakdown.

Why It’s Needed

Families with a disabled child are at much higher risk of breakdown due to the severe pressures of caring responsibilities. Children with disabilities are also more likely to experience isolation, marginalisation, and bullying, which can lead to low self-esteem and lack of confidence.

  • 76% of parents with a disabled child experience stress or depression
  • 7 out of 10 families with a disabled child are still being pushed to breaking point
“If my family hadn’t accessed short break services I’m not sure that we would have still been together as a family today.”
